While attending a yoga class today, the instructor invited us to set an intention. The first thing that came to my mind was "Love."
As a teen and young adult, I was obsessed with the topic of love. I read religious books and attended youth groups on the topic of sex, purity, and love. I also journaled relentlessly and wrote songs about love. I wanted to help people and make a better world.
During my young adult "rebellion" I had a few bouts with love and heartbreak that provided a firm dose of reality. I quit Catholicism, realized I liked girls, began to avoid romantic relationships, and I floated from college into a career in social work
.
After a few years of social work, I began to work with a transpersonal psychologist. I wanted to figure out how to use my skills to best serve the world, while keeping myself sane.
Through this work, I came closer to recognizing more deeply my "soul purpose"- why I am here on this earth. I am here to act creatively
and with love.
When I choose to be creative and loving every day, I am happy. How cool is that? As I move toward loving myself, others, and the world around me more deeply every day,
I ask you this:
What if we stopped being unhappy?
What if we stopped hating ourselves?
What if we started doing things that
give us joy?
What if we started choosing love.
