The most common comment I receive when meeting new people is: "You're tall!" The second usually has something to do with how happy I am/seem to be.
Musically, I've found myself wanting to keep up this sunny image by creating happy music.... and yet I have few happy songs. Many are sad stories, and most of those stories aren't true for me. I think I picked most of them up working as a counselor for the past 5 years. As Johann Wagner, my songwriting godfather, would say- "steal everything". I'm working on it.
I've heard that there are benefits to being a "tortured artist." On a psychological level, people like to see themselves as happier than celebrities. This is why tabloids make their bucks documenting break ups, addictions, and personal chaos. Apparently we all like to be reminded that our lives are so bad compared to (insert rich famous person here).
My personal mission is to be as happy, loving, and creative as possible, and to help others to live more vibrantly. Sad songs happen, and I need them and love them. But I'm frankly tired of seeing talented people who are chronically unhappy and self-limiting. Call me crazy, but I believe artists deserve to be happy.
I crave lightness. I dream of happiness, creativity, peaceful presence, love, and adventure- Today, tomorrow, and for the rest of my life.
Won't you join me on this adventure?
Cheers!
